We woke up early the next morning and popped back to the local Billa we’d bought all our supplies from at the start of great expedition, to buy some food to bring home, plus a healthy breakfast of caramel waffles and hot drinks from the vending machine, which we sat eating outside in the street.

We still had some time to kill before the taxi was picking us up to take us to the airport so we walked around Sofia a bit more and discovered the hot spring fountain, which was fascinating!

Dom and I needed the toilet whilst we were enjoying the sights, so we headed to the nearby public ones.

Which were closed!

So we had to walk all the way back to the guest rooms again and go there :/

I’d texted Ian to tell him what we’d had to do, so everyone else headed back there too, and I was annoyed at having to cut our exploring short just because of my bodily functions!!

We still had some time before our taxi though, but didn’t feel we had enough time to go back out again, so we just rested in the room, watching Bulgarian TV until the taxi arrived.

The rest of the morning was un-memorable!

I bought us all some hot food on the plane for lunch, as even though we had some packed food with us, it was much more of a treat to be served hot lunch on a plane!

Ian had the window seat flying home so he filmed and took photos too, and this time we seemed to fly a more southerly route and we were able to see the coast of Croatia and even Venice from the sky, which was very cool!

Everyone was exhausted, so we don’t really remember much else about the journey home.

We arrived back about 5.30pm, all worn out, then the older boys were picked up at about 6pm by their Dad.

When I said I was taking them out there to see the house, I said I couldn’t promise them a holiday, but I could definitely promise them an experience.

And it had certainly been that!

If truth be told, it hadn’t been a huge amount of fun for them as there was so much sorting out to do, and waiting around for deliveries, that we couldn’t get out and about to explore the surrounding area as much as I’d hoped, and they’d also had to take care of B far more than I’d anticipated whilst we adults got essential jobs done.

I did feel disappointed that their first experience of the house and the village hadn’t been what I’d imagined and planned.

My meticulously planned itinerary had been that all the deliveries would arrive the day after we did so we could get all the jobs done in the first day or so we were there.

Then after that, we’d have plenty of time for taking picnics out and exploring the village and the surrounding countryside.

Best-laid plans and all that :/

But it had certainly been an interesting learning process and we did at least now have a house in which we could sleep, cook, and eat in, even if we still couldn’t shower or toilet in it yet!

And for me personally, it was still exciting to have seen all the huge potential of the place, and realise  that our impulse eBay buy had actually reaped a really lovely house and amazing plot of land which I can’t wait to do a lot more with!
